Lihue Airport (LIH) is located on the southeast coast of the island of Kauai. Encompassing approximately 886 acres, LIH provides domestic, overseas, and inter-island air carrier service. The airport is included in the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA’s) National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS). NPIAS categorizes LIH as a small-hub primary commercial service facility. The determination of hub status for an airport is based on the Airport’s percentage of annual national enplaned passengers. A small-hub airport, such as LIH, has between 0.05 percent and 0.25 percent of total national enplaned passengers. The 2019 Terminal Area Forecast estimates 1,621,206 enplaned passengers at LIH for the 2018 federal fiscal year (FY), which is 0.18 percent of the national total of 887,027,038 enplaned passengers over that period.
